I'm going to be the bad guy.
Hillary Clinton will never be President of the United States.
There... someone had to say it.
Since she lost the Democratic Presidential nomination to Barack Obama, and he didn't win it, she was so clearly ahead only a year ago that she clearly LOST it, some supporters of New York Senator Hillary Clinton (notice how the 'Rodham' disappeared again) have switched their support to John McCain.
This boggles the mind. McCain is so far from Clinton on every position that it's deciding that if you can't adopt the child you want, you will burn down the entire orphanage just to show them they can't mess with you.
Rachel Maddow came up with a great term for it last night... "post-rational politics." It's when someone decides to make everything worse since they failed to make it better in precisely the way they wanted.
The shining example of that is Wisconsin's very own Debra Bartoshevich of Watertown. A former volunteer for the Clinton campaign who was actually elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. When Clinton suspended her campaign, months after it became clear she could not win the nomination, Bartoshevich switched her support to John McCain. And then was actually surprised when the Democratic party stripped her of her delegate status.
Batroshevich describes herself as a "pro-choice independent." Yesterday she was in Denver to help the Republican party unveil an ad featuring her story. When asked at the press conference how she could reconcile her "pro-choice" position with John McCain's candidacy, Bartoshevich responded "Going back to 1999, John McCain did an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle saying that overturning Roe v. Wade would not make any sense, because then women would have to have illegal abortions.”
She think John McCain is pro-choice. Too bad she didn't bother to Google "McCain overturn Roe v. Wade". Here's the first link... to McCain's campaign website. What's the very first sentence?
If she's a liar or an idiot, well then there's nothing that can be done with her. You can't hold a rational discussion with people who refuse to even attempt to be rational. She really wanted Hillary Clinton to win and when she didn't, Batroshevich decided to become the political equivalent of a suicide bomber. If she can't have what she wants, then no one will. It's the way many three-year-olds approach disappointment. It's like playing Monopoly with the person who flips the board over when they figure out they're not going to win.
If she's misinformed, she's willfully misinformed. While McCain has taken a fence-sitter's approach to reproductive freedom in the past, it doesn't get much clearer than that statement above. And it took less than 30 seconds to find. So when Bartoshevich was deciding on how to deal with her disappointment that Clinton ran such a poor campaign, she didn't decide to support McCain because he was a good choice. She lashed out emotionally and now she's stuck because to admit she was merely being used by the Republican party would be a blow to her self-esteem that her psyche can't take. She's like the woman whose lost her life savings, her house, her car, and her marriage all in pursuit of Scientology, only to discover that the real core secret is that undead space aliens are the cause of all of life's problems.
I don't believe in making blanket statements... usually. But this is one area where I simply can't see any rational middle ground.
If you were a Hillary Clinton supporter, you can't vote for McCain. If you do, then either you weren't really a Clinton supporter because you don't know what her policy positions are, or you're an immature child who can't stand not getting your way. Either you're immature or ignorant. Take your pick.
Peace. Out.

"John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned..."So Bartoshevich is either: misinformed, a liar, or an idiot.
